The Singapore Food Agency will be enhancing Covid-19 measures at both of Singapore’s active Fishery Ports. With over 902 cases link to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster, this virus spread has been the largest active cluster by far.
The Singapore Food Agency will put stricter measures into three main areas of the ports – the entrance, market place and the unloading area. All of which are currently active at Senoko Fishery port. Jurong Fishery Port will reopen this Saturday, period.
Is it safe? No measures put in place can prevent a virus spread 100% but all workers will have to do their part and adhere to hand hygiene and sanitation protocols , and they will have to wear their masks and gloves when they load and unload goods.
It is understandable that workers do feel discomfort wearing the mask for prolonged period of times doing harsh manual labour but in order to prevent more cases, we have to do our part and follow the rules and measures. Workers the mention that the humid environment made it uncomfortable for them to wear their masks for a prolonged period.
To date, 76% of workers at the fishery port are fully vaccinated, while 86 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine. "Unfortunately, Covid-19 managed to break through the defences, with many cases detected at JFP over the past month. The cases further spread to the markets and hawker centres through the stallholders who had visited JFP," Ms Fu said.
